Caring For Your Dog With a Full-Time Job

Few things in my life make me as happy as my dog. I am the proud owner of an Australian shepherd named Lily. She just turned two earlier this year. She is a little bundle of joy. I got her when I was in my sophomore year of college and we spent all the time we could together while I was in college. After I graduated, I spent a summer as a river raft guide in Colorado. The place I was renting had a big backyard and other dogs for her to play with while I was working. On my days off we would go hiking and running together through the beautiful Colorado wilderness. I wouldn’t trade our time together for anything. But now that I am finished with school and summer is over, I’ve begun work as a full-time accountant at a public accounting firm. I’m excited to start my career and I’m grateful for all the opportunities that lie ahead, but it does come with some sacrifice. During the busy tax season, I may have to work up to 60 hours a week. I’m new to the firm, and I have to do a lot of grunt work. I won’t be in a position to assign busy work away until I’m a few years in. This means long hours at the office, and long hours away from my sweet Lily. If you know anything about Australian shepherds, you know they don’t like to sit still for too long. They can play fetch for hours. They will swim and chase with other dogs all day.

Unfortunately, I can’t be there for Lily like I used to. So I started to wonder if there was a service for pet owners like me who need an extra hand getting their pooch out of the house. While I was surfing the web, I came across Walk! ATX. Walk! ATX is a pet care service based in Austin, Texas and they do lots of different things for busy pet owners. Their main service is dog walking. Getting a dog out of the house for an extra 20 minutes a day does lots for their happiness and development. They get to smell around and experience the neighborhood. They make memories with the scenery around them. They also have a chance to socialize with other dogs and humans. Dogs are most happy when they feel like they have a job, and giving a dog a walk during the day helps them to feel needed and loved.

My Lily is two years old and she’s pretty well trained at this point, but Walk! ATX also offers some other great services such as training for puppies. If your puppy likes to jump up on strangers or pull on their leash, the Walk! ATX trainers can help curb these bad habits. They’ll also give you tips and tricks on how to train your dog on your own. Communicating with dogs isn’t always intuitive. The experts at dog companies like this can give insight to new pet owners of all different breeds.
